Episode 6 - Vote June 8th!

In this episode of “A More Perfect Collingswood,” Wes & Kate talk about elections. It’s been a busy spring for Collingswood voters! Wes & Kate discuss major themes and takeaways from the May municipal election. Collingswood voters also need to be ready to cast their vote in the primary election on June 8th.

Kate discusses the job of county committee and the work that the incumbents, Collingswood Progressive Democrats, have been doing for the past two years in this office--growing the party, issue advocacy, successfully lobbying for community energy aggregation and pressuring the Camden County Democratic Committee to be more democratic & ethical in their operations.  Kate also presents some of the undemocratic features of our ballot here in Camden County. Like everywhere else in NJ, progressives have to contend with the deeply problematic party line that gives hand picked machine loyalists a measurable (30-40 point) advantage over challengers. Additionally, just here in Camden County, our ballot is further compromised by machine recruited phantom candidates who are not actually running for office but are on the ballot to push progressives to the edge of the Ballot Siberia & siphon off voters from progressives. Kate talks about why the incumbent slate, Collingswood Progressive Democrats, are in Column 5 of the June 8 primary ballot. Kate also talks some about the South Jersey Progressive Democrats in Column 4 running for State Committee. More info about all the candidates running under the South Jersey Progressive Democrats’ banner are presented here.

Polls are up from 6 AM-8 PM on June 8th and residents should cast their ballot in their usual polling place.
